Homemade Gyros

The Greek Gyro might be my favorite sandwich.  For me, it reminds me of my family.  No, we aren’t Greek, but we do love gyros.  Whenever we took a trip out of town, it always seemed like mom and dad wanted to take us somewhere where we could get a gyro.  I didn’t always appreciate this sandwich, but I do now.  The best gyro I’ve ever had is in a town about an hour and a half away.  The proprietor is an elderly Greek gentleman who knows enough English to run the restaurant.  While it isn’t uncommon for my dad and I to drive there just for a gyro, I needed an option closer to home.  This recipe is my attempt to clone the best.  No, it isn’t the same, but I’m willing to bet it’s healthier, and after I’ve included the price of gas, it’s a fraction of the price.  Did I mention it’s damn tasty?  I don’t think I did.  It’s damn tasty.
